A "Second Wind" is an occurrence where you gain energy or strength following a phase of breathlessness or fatigue.
Whether you are living beyond cancer, currently in treatment, newly diagnosed, or require exercise for therapy... let me help you find your Second Wind!
I am one of the many fortunate people living beyond cancer. I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer at the age of 50 thus I have a personal understanding of the many trials one faces through that journey. I am familiar with the physical changes and challenges, as well as the mental and emotional toll that often transpires. I have sincere compassion for all people struggling with disease or injury, and those who are experiencing complications due to aging or barriers to being physically active.
I am also a true example of one's ability to find our Second Wind!

Current research has proven that exercise and physical activity assist in cancer prevention, recovery and survival, and it is now recommended that all people with cancer be as physically active as their condition and abilities allow. Cancer exercise can be done before, during and after treatments and are designed to help overcome side effects such as:
· Bone loss
· Depression
· Fatigue
· Increased risk of heart disease
· Lymphedema
· Pelvic floor issues
· Peripheral neuropathy and deconditioning (increasing incidence of falls)
· Reduced quality of life
· Reduce range of movement
· Sarcopenia (increase in body fat and decrease in muscle mass)
Clinical studies have shown that exercise has a positive impact on these side effects and can improve physical functioning which in turn speeds recovery and enhances survival.
When prescribing an exercise program I will work with your healthcare team to individually tailor a program according to your type of cancer, the treatment received, individual requirements, and physical limitations. Your personalized exercise prescription will be created using the most current evidence based research for your disease.

There is a natural regression in the human physical condition that happens with age or illness. Muscle weakness, loss of mobility, balance, and coordination all increase our risk of injury and falls. Being unable to complete activities of daily living often leads to a loss of independent living.
Functional Training
We can get started by completing posture and movement observations, as well as flexibility and mobility assessments, and discussing client goals. If you require support to complete an exercise program prescribed by a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist, you will be monitored for proper form and manageable progression.
