A "Second Wind" is an occurrence where you gain energy or strength following a phase of breathlessness or fatigue.

Whether you are living beyond cancer,  currently in treatment, newly diagnosed, or require exercise for therapy... let me help you find your Second Wind!

Who Am I

I am a CSEP-CPT. To become a Certified Personal Trainer with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, I have studied Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Behavior Modification, Health-Related Physical Activity and Physical Assessment, Health-Related Exercise Prescription and Program Design.

I am a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist with comprehensive knowledge on 26 types of cancer, and safe and effective exercise programming for cancer patients before, during and after treatment. I am also one of the many fortunate people living beyond cancer, thus I have a personal understanding of the physical, emotional and mental trials, one faces through that journey.

I am able to screen, assess, and prescribe exercise for you, or assist you with pre-prescribed exercises from another healthcare provider. I am not able to diagnose issues.

Last, but most importantly...

I am a true example of one's ability to find our Second Wind!

CANCER EXERCISE

MEN AND WOMENS HEALTH, TRAINING FOR FUNCTION MOBILITY and MEDICINE

MEN AND WOMENS HEALTH, TRAINING FOR FUNCTION MOBILITY and MEDICINE

Personalized training specific to those who have or had a cancer journey.

All programs are based on where you are at in your cancer journey, type of cancer, type of treatment, physical abilities and/or limitations. Exercises will be adaptable and can be modified on the spot.

Pre-Treatment - Exercise programs are created to help improve cardiovascular health and muscle strength to prepare the body, mind and soul for the journey ahead

During Treatment - Low level exercise programs. Must be at least 6 to 8 weeks post-surgery, and may require physician approval.

Post Treatment - Low to Moderate level exercise programs. Must be at least 6 to 8 weeks post-surgery

Exercise Benefits

Enhanced Treatment Tolerance

  • Properly prescribed, regular exercise helps cancer patients better tolerate the physical stress and side effects of treatments
  • Patients who exercise often experience fewer treatment-related complications

Reduced Treatment Side Effects

  • Exercise has been shown to alleviate common side effects of cancer treatments, such as fatigue, nausea, and pain
  • It can also help prevent or minimize issues like muscle wasting and joint stiffness, which are often associated with prolonged periods of inactivity during treatment.

Immune System Support

  • Exercise has a positive impact on the immune system by promoting the circulation of immune cells and enhancing their activity. This can potentially help the body better defend itself against cancer cells and infections, especially during a time when the immune system might be compromised due to treatments.

Psychological Well-Being

  • Regular exercise has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression and improve overall emotional well-being
  • Boosts mood and promotes a sense of accomplishment, which can be particularly important during the challenging journey of cancer

Improved Treatment Outcomes

  • Regular exercise may enhance the effectiveness of certain cancer therapies by increasing the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to tumor cells. This, in turn, could make tumor cells more susceptible to treatment

Functional Movement and Mobility

There is a natural regression in the human physical condition that happens with illness or age.

Muscle weakness, loss of mobility, balance, and coordination not only increases the risk of injury and falls. Other consequences include:

  • Progression of chronic diseases including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer
  • Circulatory Problems
  • Osteoporosis
  • Depression due to isolation
  • Loss of independent living

Already Deconditioned? Research has shown improvement with as little as 1 hour/week of properly prescribed exercise.

Exercises can be done even if using a mobility aid.

Do you have exercises prescribed by a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist?

Bring your prescribed exercises and I can assist and support your progression by ensuring you are using proper form and equipment.
